    Jeff I've heard accents like southern accent and black accent where the stress word falls on the end of the thought group and it indicates that they have ended their thought group and if the stress word falls on behind the final word of a thought group they can keep adding more thought groups. You understand? May I share a link video with you? So you can analyze the short video?

    Hey, Jeff. I've heard Americans changing pitches in one thought group I thought it would just happen when there's at least 2 thought groups.

    • @FluentAmerican
      @FluentAmerican День тому

      can you elaborate on changing pitches? In general what to expect inside of a thought group: the pitch will rise on the stressed syllable of a stressed word, the other syllables will drop If a stressed word falls on one of the first words of the thought group, all the other syllables will move down if a stressed word falls towards the end of the thought group, it doesn't mean that it will be the highest pitch necessarily--the highest pitch may be towards the beginning rising intonation is not the same as the stressed word all that said, without specifically hearing the phrases you are, it's hard to say exactly what the situation that you're encountering is

    I've noticed black people sometimes employ stress words within a thought group. Texas and Boston accent are very different from Alabama and atlanta accent so the stress and pitch too?

      hey there! thanks for reaching out I understand about shows and popular media; I'm always a bit nervous about copyright, and while I understand that there are many channels built around fair use and adding to material that isn't originally theirs and I've done a little of it in the past, it's not a move I want to risk with the channel overall. I hope that makes sense!

    Guys just a quick question: isn t american pitch a little higher than other languages? Well higher than Romanian let s say

    • @FluentAmerican
      @FluentAmerican 14 днів тому

      American English generally uses a wider range of pitches than romance languages like Romanian. A natural sound in English will require a mix of highs and lows. Romance languages tend to be flatter at the sentence level

    • @princevladd
      @princevladd 14 днів тому

      @@FluentAmerican we do have a wide array of fluctuations in terms of pitch but i reffer at that base level; the normal level where everyone starts. I feel Romanian is much lower than American English in terms of the place where the emission happens

    • @FluentAmerican
      @FluentAmerican 14 днів тому

      From my perspective working with Romanians, the sounds are generally not engaging the diaphragm to the same degree in my opinion. Compare similar vowels across the languages (e.g, /a/ in "stop" or /i/ in "leave", which have equivalent sounds in Romanian. The American English ones are lower with more breath.

    This app in the conversation mode (the violet one), it's so frustrating there's always a problems with some words lke yeah, okay, also and many others. On the contrary works better with single words mode instead full sentences. I'dont know if is my mycrophone phone, the connection, or if I should use a pc with an headset. Am I the only one with this all issues?

    • @FluentAmerican
      @FluentAmerican 15 днів тому

      thanks for sharing your experience! based on my experience here in the video (granted this was some time ago), the app does better with single words where syllables tend to receive more emphasis. In sentences where there are more reductions and linking, the app tends to struggle more unless you pronounce everything "perfectly", which isn't necessarily the most natural or realistic
